Vic: Ford to lose two days production, nearly 4,000 stood down

Ford Australia says it will lose at least two full days of production after standing
down nearly 4,000 workers today.

The company will be unable to produce its daily standard of 420 cars today and tomorrow
after standing down 1,870 workers at its Broadmeadows plant and 1,930 at Geelong.

The car manufacturer has been hamstrung by striking workers at radiator and compressor
supplier Natra, a subsidiary of manufacturing giant Austrim.

The halt in supplies, which began after Natra workers walked off the job last Friday,
forced the stand downs at Ford this morning.

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union says Natra workers walked out after allegedly
being taunted by their boss who refused to improve the provisions of a redundancy package.
