Southern Stars finalists
TANIA Kernaghan and Jetty Road head the list of finalists for the2009 Southern Stars, which is the 13th Australian IndependentCountry Music Awards presented by Neighbourhood Cable.
Tania reaped four nominations in Australian Independent Album ofthe Year, APRA/AMCOS Single of the Year, Heritage Track and FemaleVocalist.
Jetty Road scored three berths in Album of the Year, Single andGroup/Duo.
Multiple 2008 Award winner Amber Lawrence has two nominations inSingle and Female Vocalist category and Victoria Baillie also scoredtwo in Single and Album of the Year section for Start Brand New.
A number of this year's finalists - like Amber, Graham Rodger and8 Ball Aitken - were winners in the 2008 Australian IndependentCountry Music Awards, while others - such as Victoria, SandraHumphries, Doug McIntyre, Lance Friend, Dan Murphy, Dane Sharp, ToriDarke, Lianna Rose, Kimberley Bowden, Kaylah Anne, The Harmonatorsand Danny Hooper - have their first taste of pre-awardsexpectations.
Awards Coordinator John Arnold said this year's nominationsreflected the continuing strong growth of the Independent countrymusic industry in Australia.
"We received nominations from 69 individual artists and groups,"Mr Arnold said.
"But what really stood out amidst the finalists in the eightjudged categories was the mix of well-established artists togetherwith some outstanding emerging talent.
The awards are staged during the 23rd Mildura Country MusicFestival. Winners will be announced on Saturday, October 3, at theawards presentation concert at 5.30pm in the Mildura Arts CentreTheatre. Tickets are available by calling 1800 039 043.
The awards will be broadcast live on the internet for the firsttime this year on CMR Online www.countrymusicradio.com.au.
